PEF SUMMER VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Following a record-breaking 2025 season with over 100 volunteers contributing more than 4,400 hours of service, the PEF Summer Volunteer Program returns for 2026. Our high school volunteers are the heart of our elementary summer school program. From supporting classrooms and mentoring younger students to leading spirited theme days, student leaders build confidence, gain real-world experience, and make summer unforgettable for our elementary school students.

What You Will Do:

Volunteers will assist in classrooms, supervise recess, and provide lunch support as part of our Elementary Summer School Program. Flexible morning and afternoon shifts are available, with a minimum one-week commitment required.

Program Highlights:

• • Training & Ice Cream Social: Begin the summer with a training session to cover the basics and set you up for success, followed by our Ice Cream Social. Meet other volunteers, connect with staff, and start the summer on a fun note.

• • Meaningful Impact: Support younger students, help in classrooms, and be someone they look up to.

• • Build Leadership Skills: Work alongside PVPUSD teachers, strengthen communication and responsibility, and gain experience that stands out on resumes and college applications.

• • Official Service Hours: Receive verified documentation of your completed hours for school requirements and applications.

• • Congressional Commendation Opportunity: PEF facilitates the official tracking and verification required for eligible volunteers to receive a Congressional Commendation from Congressman Ted Lieu, recognizing outstanding community service.

We are seeking responsible, enthusiastic, and caring high school students who enjoy working with children and are ready to lead. Whether you’re looking to build your leadership skills, expand your professional network, or make a lasting impact on local elementary students, we want you on our team!

How to Apply:

Click the Apply button at the top of this page to get started. All applicants must submit a short video. New volunteers will participate in a brief interview. Returning volunteers only need to complete the application and sumbit the video to confirm their spot in the program.

Program Fee  

A nonrefundable $50 Program Fee is due at the time of application and supports volunteer materials, t-shirts, orientation activities, and service hour processing. If a new applicant is not selected for the program, the $50 fee will be fully refunded to the original form of payment. Fee waivers are available upon request to ensure accessibility for all families.

Commitment Requirement:

At least one full week is required (morning, afternoon or both shifts). Volunteers may sign up for additional weeks if space is available. The Volunteer Hours Tracking Log can be found HERE.
